Torque Converter

Torque across newton metres, pound feet and kilogram force metres. Pound feet and foot pounds are the same magnitude used for different quantities, which is why the order of the words is not arbitrary.

Also called: nm to lb-ft, torque wrench converter.

How this is calculated

Torque is a force applied at a distance, so its units are a force times a length. Newton metres and pound feet are the working units. The convention worth knowing is that torque is written pound-foot and energy is written foot-pound, even though the arithmetic is identical, because one is a twisting moment and the other is work done.
