Toll Cost Calculator

Toll cost for a highway trip, by distance or by plaza count, with the vehicle class multiplier and the return and monthly pass concessions. A same-day return is charged at about one and a half times a single trip rather than twice, which is the concession most people forget to claim.

₹998

₹998 in tolls for this trip at the car rate. A return within twenty-four hours is charged at about one and a half times the single rate, so 997.5 rather than 1330. The concession has to be claimed at the plaza on the way back, and it is the one people most often miss. Across 4 trips a month that is 3990, or 47880 a year. Rates are set per stretch and revised annually, so the operator quote for a specific route will differ from this.

Method and background

How this is calculated

Highway tolls are charged either per kilometre of tolled road or per plaza, and both methods are supported because travellers know one or the other rather than both. Vehicle class is a straight multiplier and the steps are large: a two axle truck pays roughly double what a car does and a multi-axle vehicle more again. Two concessions matter and both are commonly missed. A return within twenty-four hours is charged at about one and a half times the single rate, not twice, and a monthly pass at a single plaza costs roughly the price of fifty single crossings, which pays for itself at about twenty-five return trips.

Method and limits

What it assumes

  • Rates and concessions follow the common Indian highway convention and vary by authority.

What it deliberately does not model

  • Actual rates are set per stretch and revised annually, so a route quote from the operator will differ.
  • Local exemptions, state highways and city tolls follow their own rules entirely.

Frequently asked questions

Is a return trip charged twice?
Not within twenty-four hours. The usual concession is about one and a half times the single rate, and it has to be claimed at the plaza on the way back.
When is a monthly pass worth it?
At roughly twenty-five return trips through the same plaza in a month. Below that the single rate is cheaper.
