This is what the calculation gives for the numbers you entered. It is an estimate, not advice, and it knows nothing about your situation beyond those numbers. Rules for India change on a published schedule; the effective date is shown on every rule-based tool.
How this is calculated
Once interest crosses the threshold, TDS is deducted on the whole amount rather than only on the excess. The rate doubles without a PAN. What matters is that TDS is an advance, not a settlement: at a thirty percent slab, ten percent deducted leaves twenty percent still due, which catches people who assume the bank has handled it. Form 15G, or 15H for senior citizens, stops deduction where total income falls below the taxable limit, and filing one when income is above that limit is a false declaration.

What it assumes
- A single deposit holder and one bank aggregating across branches.
What it deliberately does not model
- Thresholds differ for senior citizens and are set by the Finance Act.
- Interest is taxable on accrual each year, not only when the deposit matures.

Frequently asked questions
- Is TDS the full tax on my FD interest?
- No. TDS is ten percent with PAN while your liability follows your slab. At thirty percent you owe another twenty percent when you file.
- Should I file Form 15G?
- Only if your total income is genuinely below the taxable limit. Filing it otherwise is a false declaration with consequences beyond the tax.
